Summer is a great time for backyard fun. There’s so many different things you can do. No matter the size of the space, you can make the backyard an enjoyable and relaxing getaway as well as a place to have fun. If you’re in need of some ideas, I’ve come up with a few that my family and I have done over the years and hopefully you’ll find them helpful. If you’re looking to relax, try setting up a hammock. It’s a great little backyard getaway where you can spend a little quality “me time” and catch up on a good read or maybe even, sleep. Using string lights and lanterns is a fun and creative way to add ambiance in the evening to your backyard and that means more time you can be outside enjoying the outdoors. Having an outdoor movie night is sure to be a good time, grab some snacks, blankets and pillows. You can make your own movie screen by simply using a plain white sheet. Don’t have a projector? No problem, you can rent one or you can actually make your own using your cell phone. Just go on YouTube and there’s numerous videos that will show you how. Toast up marshmallows over a fire for a simple and tasty snack or add chocolate and graham crackers and make s’mores. Set up a net for a game of badminton or volleyball. Don’t have a net, don’t worry, play without the net. My brother and I used to have some serious badminton competitions (without the net) playing well into the night, ok maybe we’re both a little competitive but we had a lot of fun, so much that I still remember it to this day. Hook a sprinkler up to your hose, it’s a fun and easy way for the kids to cool off on a hot day. My kids always had a great time doing this. Star gaze in the evening and don’t forget to look for those satellites, if you have a telescope, that’s an added bonus. Playing a board game is a great way of bringing the fun outdoors. I recently bought a large vintage board game for fifteen dollars! Don’t forget music, it always elevates the fun. Just remember, you don’t have to spend a lot to make lasting memories, after all it’s all about the simple things, right?
